Sports and Games

Royal Academy, Matigara, is a hub for nurturing talented players and instilling true sportsmanship among students. The school takes pride in its enormous, lush green playgrounds and sprawling campus, which provide an ideal environment for students of all age groups to develop their physical fitness, skills, and team spirit. A wide variety of games, including Football, Cricket, Volleyball, Throwball, Handball, Track and Field events, and more, are regularly played, allowing students to enjoy both recreational and competitive sports.

The school organizes three major inter-school tournaments for both boys and girls:

• R.K. Memorial Football Tournament
• Royal’s Inter-School Girls Throwball Tournament
• N.K. Sanghai Memorial Inter-School Cricket Tournament

In addition, Royal Academy conducts numerous inter-house competitions in sports such as Kho-Kho, Table Tennis, Badminton, Track & Field, Cross-Country, Junior/Senior Football, Volleyball, Cricket, Throwball, and Handball. These competitions encourage healthy competition, teamwork, leadership, and discipline among students while fostering a love for physical activity.

Achievements in Sports

• Football: Middle School Football Team crowned CHAMPIONS in the inter-school tournament organized by Global Endeavour International School.
• Cricket: School Cricket Team were RUNNERS-UP in the Dattu-Phadkar Inter-School Cricket Tournament (2018). Reached SEMIFINALS in the N.K. Sanghai Memorial Cricket Tournament.
• Throwball: Girls’ team were RUNNERS-UP in the Inter-School Girls Throwball Tournament organized by Royal Academy (2014).
• Athletics: Students won multiple medals at district and inter-school events:
  • Gold Medal in district-level athletic meet by SMKP Women’s Sports Association
  • Silver in Senior Shot-Put (Girls) by Himalayan International Residential School
  • Gold in 100m track race and Bronze in Long Jump (Senior)

• Memorial Tournaments:
  • Champions in 1st and 11th Surendra Agarwal Memorial Cricket Tournament at DPS Siliguri (2007 & 2016)
  • Champions in R.K. Memorial Football Tournament for three consecutive years (2012, 2013, 2014)
  • Champions in Inter-School Girls Throwball Competition (2014) conducted by NBSCC
